A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words…

…more if it’s bad.

We plan trips. We plan events. We plan weddings, building families, and buying a house. So why aren’t you planning your career future with as much detail and concern.
We joke about “Bride-zilla’s”, but all they want is to create a special day for everyone involved. Would it be so bad to be seen as a “Brand-zilla”?
I mean really.

So, I was reading along in the book- cuz it’s what I do, and I found a few cool things to enhance your communications plan. Headshots! It seems logical for me, an author, but is it for everyone? Why not. You can add it to business cards, so people have a face to go with the name. It works on blog post like that one up there at the top of this one. What could it hurt? Maybe you will have it added to a wall somewhere in the business you work at as employee of the month, quarter, decade, BEST WORKER EVER! Besides, you can always pass it off as a gift to your mom for her birthday or…not.

To feed into the photo idea a bit more…are you on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and any other social media outlet? If so, you can use said photo as your profile picture on each outlet. That way you are consistent across each outlet. Oh! And if you aren’t on any of these…GET ON THEM. You need to be seen and heard- but don’t be stupid. I know, that’s a terrible word. I agree, but I have also seen many people I once respected be stupid on these sites. When you post something online it is out there. Forever. No take-backsies. No re-dos.

It’s there. If you ever wonder if something is a bad idea to post think about this…15 years from now…you have a child who is doing a school project on- you guessed it- YOU. Now this amazing child gets online and starts a search and something pops up that makes you look like a total… Fill in the blank here. You could look like a total boss or a complete tool. It depends what you put out there. I don’t know about you, but I would hope my children one day see me as a BOSS. Am I perfect- not even close, but I don’t share my saucy kind of stupid with the world. Only my up close and favorite people get to see that hot mess.

So, fix your hair. Straighten your tie. Girl’s wear ties too- don’t be sexist. Smile!
