Blog sites and websites are NOT the same thing. This is a blog because it is fun and informal. Yes, you can learn cool stuff but in a friendly way. Websites tend to be a bit more formal in the way they approach topics. They are less flighty and stick to one thing. Welcome to the crazy that is my blog.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, we are still on the branding journey with Personal Branding for Dummies (A Wiley Brand). We will continue reviewing chapter 10 so grab a drink and maybe a snack and let’s do this.
Can blogging help you become what you want to become? Sure, why not. First you must ask yourself a few questions.
What is your goal?
Can writing a blog help you achieve your goals?
Is it important for you to be seen as an expert in the topic you are sharing? (If you intend to talk about the job you hold, will your employers be okay with it?)
Who are you trying to reach?
Will your target audience read your blog? Maybe they are more of a magazine crowd. Think it through.
Um…do you like to write? Cuz- you gotta write the blog. Often.
Do you have time? No- for real- do you have the time to devote to a blog? I research these topics. I read and take notes and evaluate the topics I put on here. So, do you have time?
Blogging is a way to continue your branding. It is a way to reach out and “talk” to people who are interested in the topics you are sharing. It is a way to show your knowledge and gain more from others in your field. Think about it, if you have a business, having up to date blog posts about your business is beneficial to your budding career. If you want people to know you and your product then you need to get it out there. My product is me. I want you to know me and what I have to offer. Yes, I am also a writer. I want you to read my books and be entertained by my words. What better way to draw you in then lay myself out there for your viewing on a blog?
Ta-Da! This is me. This is my blog. I am willing to allow the world into my space to see what I can do. Having a blog is a tiny way to write your own story. It is your room online that you get to decorate and design anyway you like. You make the decisions. You decide your topics and images. You pick the color scheme and font type. This is your space. Your BRAND. In my tiny little room in the massive world of the internet I am free to share what I like, what I know, and all the crazy that is trapped in my little chunk of the world. My goal is that it is interesting and helpful to you, the reader.
This is how I chose to build my brand, by teaching you how to build yours.
