If we are talking goals for your business or ‘product’ then it is helpful to see what other businesses are doing and what goals they are setting. It works- I tried it. It is said the top goals for your business fall into these categories:
- Brand awareness
- Educate audiences
- Build credibility/ trust
- Generate demand/ leads
- Nurture subscribers/ audience/ leads
So, the question here is, “Do I successfully do any/all of these things?” To be honest, I don’t know. I try to make my brand known, educate while entertaining you. I would hope you can trust me. Do you? Do I generate demand? Hmmm…? Do I nurture you?
I have goals. I do. One of which is to be here for you and all your learnin’ and cuppa needs. Do I nurture you? Maybe. I am more than willing to share my time and have a snack with you. Did you bring one? A nibble? Did you? Did you bring enough for everyone? Sharing is caring.
While you pass out your nibbles to the rest of us, let’s fill our cuppas and find where we are in Digital Marketing All-in-One for Dummies, A Wiley Brand. Give me an extra second or 12 to run lil Frankie out for a pee break.
We’re back! He peed and barked (squeaked) at the mail carrier. It was annoyingly cute. It’s hard to be threatening when you weigh under 15lbs.
Now that we not only know we need goals, but we have a few to work with, it’s time to implement them and track how they are doin’. We need to determine our key performance indicators (KPIs). This is where we put measurements in place to determine if our goals are being. The purpose is to keep us on track and to know what is working and what you need to toss out the closest window. Are you doing everything you can in these areas?
- Brand awareness- social media shares and likes, email referrals and referral links.
- Generate demand/ leads- blog signups and comments
- Nurture subscribers/ audience/leads- retention of current signups and bringing in more. Having your current following suggest you to others.
^^^^^You can do this. Really. You can tell all your friends, even enemies. I can deal with your enemies. ^^^^^
Once you have some goals in place and a ruler to measure them by, we need to look at your mindset. Mine- coffee. That is where my mind is right now. But what you have to remember, if you are out there in the corporate world is, it has its own culture. This culture dictates the rules. If it is a positive workplace then you are happy. A happy worker makes for happy customers. This is a form of culture of content (CoC). And what the heck is CoC? I do not know but let’s continue together. Hold my hand. I’m kinda scared.
Culture of content is:
*Content is champion
*Content is shared throughout
*People are encouraged to be creative with the content.
*Staff for other departments can contribute to the content.
*The business has an understanding that there can be a risk in creative content and allow it.
Would you like to work like this? Not just in the corporate world but in a world of your own creation? It is proven when employees feel they has a creative say in the way the business works it does better.
- Better quality content
- More open sharing of content
- A competitive edge in the business arena
- More valuable data to analyze
Okay, I can’t say I am understanding all of this, but I am getting the gist of it. As we dig in further and focus on the chapters ahead it become clearer…I hope.
