Yup- we are still on our journey through Personal Branding for Dummies (A Wiley Brand)- DUH.
So, this blog post is gonna blast me- Big Time…
Today let’s talk about the three C’s- Clarity, Consistency, and Constancy. I could blame my randomness these last few weeks on everything and anything, but the reality is…I could have planned ahead and had posts ready for you. But I wasn’t consistent, clear, or constant, and that is all on me. Sorry.
Today, let’s talk about clarity.
clarity
[ klar-i-tee
Noun
• clearness or lucidity as to perception or understanding; freedom from indistinctness or ambiguity.
• the state or quality of being clear or transparent to the eye; pellucidity: the clarity of pure water.
The definition above was found on dictionary.com
A quality brand is clear on the topic of who they are and who they are NOT. This can be one of the hardest things to accomplish. It is difficult to decide what you stand for and what your goals are. See, when I first started this blog, I bounced around with ideas of what I wanted it to be and from time to time I still throw in a random topic for fun. Well, fun for me. LOL
Clarity comes from understanding and embodying your unique promise of value.– A direct quote from the book
Now, lets be clear, (Ha! See what I did there?) when you are clear in your stance on topics you can and will develop “enemies.” Which can give many pause in moving forward. Let’s take Trump for example. This is a volatile viewpoint that can cause violent outbursts on both sides. Sadly, I have seen them firsthand. I am an avid ANTI Trump-er. I loathe everything that man stands for, which is a sticky belief when I am surrounded by his supporters. Did that sway me in my beliefs? No. Did it make me more cautious of voicing my opinion? Um…also no, but I am a glutton for punishment.
Whatever your topic, you must be clear and willing to defend your stance. When I said you could make enemies, I wasn’t saying pitchforks and flaming torches, but people in your industry of choice can and will disagree with your stance. That’s okay. It’s competition and competition can push people to be better. Have the courage to stand by your message and live in the choices that come with it. This is part of who you are and what you believe. This is the structure of your brand.
Will you always be right? Probably not, but what you can be is willing to learn from your mistakes and do it gracefully. The biggest issue I have with people is that they aren’t willing to admit fault, fix the problem, and move on. It actually stuns people when I willingly state that a viewpoint I had was incorrect. Why? When I am wrong, and Yes, that happens, I do my best to say so. I also do what I can to learn from the error.
Polish your sparkle and just keep twirling.
Find joy. Be joy. Enjoy.
I’m always looking for new friends! 😊
