If you had the power to change anything in the world, what would you change?
This question appeared just after I watched the news this morning. How is it we can rally together to support the rescue of a dozen children from an underwater cave but are fine with children being detained and imprisoned at the US border? How can we rally for one thing and dismiss another when they are along the same topic? Is it me or does this seem bizarre?
When we were kids (1980’s) were people this nasty to one another or is it that we now get to see live streaming video of acts of stupid? How many racist rants do we have to see online before people realize how ridiculous they look. How pathetic and childish they appear cursing out another individual for their skin color or DNA origin?
Americans- unless you are a PURE descendant of the Six Nations, or any other Native Tribe, then you are of immigrant blood. When someone asks you what you are and you offer up a list then your bloodline is from immigrants. That is what the US is made of. I have both native and immigrant blood. Very few will be able to say they are pure native. What difference does it make? Why do people assume that a person of a different skin color is here illegally or a criminal? Wanna see a WHITE criminal? Turn on the news and watch the political crap-storm going on right now. How many more charges must be placed before everyone stops their whining and demands a change?
So, if I could change something in the world it would be vision. I would blind us of color, at least towards other humans. I would make us see each other as people and not titles based on DNA or heritage. We would see value in each other’s humanity and not devalue or limitations in color or family background. There would still be arguing and bitterness about something mundane- because we are petty humans, but I would hope that it would be based on a person’s character and not on something they have no control over.
On the day we were born we didn’t get to choose to whom we were born of, where we were born, our sex, color, or our nationality. We came into the world based on the acts of others and not of our own control. Yet, the outside world will point out our flaws without hesitation at the moment of our first breath.
*Female- flaw *Not purely white- flaw *Raised by single parent-flaw *Not rich-SUPER flaw
~~These are instant flaws that were given to me before I was even cleaned off upon my birth. I was limited in possibilities due to these assumed flaws. Now- if the world was blind to, at least, color, one of these flaws would instantly be removed. I would still be seen as less than but not for my heritage. Can you see how ridiculous this is? Hate is running rampant because it has become NORMAL to judge and treat people as less than. Less than what? Are you “Permit Patty”, “Pool Guard Paul”, or any other racist- better than the people you are judging solely on their skin color? Nope- you have proven that your opinions are limited to the superficial. You only see one side of the world. You view everything through the mirror’s reflection. You are white, therefore all should be white. What a dull world you must see every day.
Let’s think about this like a field of wildflowers.
Now- I know I said I would blind us of color- and I would, but that is not possible so work with me here.
Look at this lovely picture of a field of flowers. Pretty, right? Now, let’s pretend these flowers are people- these flowers are of clearly different nationalities. Different DNA. Wildly differing colors. Does it make them any less beautiful? Is the Blue better than the Yellow, which might be better than the Red, who could be far superior to the White? Or do they make the field amazing because they are standing TOGETHER? Their collective colors make it beautiful. One is not pushing out the other based on its hue. They are standing together to create an image of unity.
**Wanna know something funny- I have had it ingrained in my head since birth that White is better than anything else that I felt odd putting it last. I thought, “Am I going to offend someone by listing White as last?” Strange, right? Hmmmm
How amazing we could be if we were just as accepting as this field of flowers.
Just something to ponder today. Think about what you would change. Let me know. Let someone know. Talk, learn, listen.
Until next time…Find joy. Be joy. Enjoy.

I would infuse the world with a super-mega dose of empathy and tolerance!
