I had the pleasure of Beta reading for his book, Zero in Zero Out. It was a fun journey. If you are a fan of James Bond / 007 thriller type stories, then this series is a heck of a ride and worth a read.

Evan Willnow was diagnosed with brain cancer three years ago. He and his wonderful wife, Liz, made the choice to sit with our writer’s group and tell us what was going on. Over the course of these three years, he never let his smile slip, even through a pandemic. He and Liz, sat with me many times at events and chatted and smiled at everyone who came in contact with us. For three years he made a point to attend writer’s group meetings and signings. This man was a spectacular person and a true loss to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Wanna know something amazing? He was just as kind and personable before the invader took his freedom. I was blessed to have known this man for over eight years. He helped me build faith in myself. He read for me and helped me structure my work with suggestions and kindness. He was quick to loan a hand to any and all who asked. My world changed because of his support and encouragement. O-B*tch-uary would still be collecting dust under my bed. I would never have written Sin Full or Time Thief. He pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and publish.

Evan was a rare creature. He had the purest of love for his family and true to his friends. He stayed strong for as long as his body would allow. He was able to share in the joy of his beautiful daughter’s wedding. He continued to write the third book in the Henry Bride series. He kept going. When the tumor damaged his vision, he found other ways to write. He recorded ideas and storylines to be typed up later. Don’t worry readers, one of his friends, who has been a part of the writing of the final book all along, will finish it and help with the release.

When his strength waned, hospice came in to help. They took on much of his day-to-day health needs. They brought in puppy cuddle time and friend visits. They took some of the weight off of Liz’s shoulders so she could spend more time with him. The hospice system is a blessing for so many.

Evan, my friend, thank you for your kind words, inside jokes, and support. You showed me that true gentleman still exists in the world. You proved that a full conversation could be had without an unkind word ever spoken. You made us laugh with little effort and taught us with ease. I will cherish the jokes we shared and chats we had. You will be who I compare others to. I will miss running into you during our walks. Your open joy at seeing the ducks and geese and feeding them cracked corn still makes me happy. I went out and bought more corn to feed them because of you. I will make sure they are fat and happy.
