Yup, it’s that time again. The time when people set unrealistic life goals and then blame everyone else when they can’t seem to meet them.
I have a few questions about these “Resolutions”…
- Why?- Why must you announce your intentions to the world that you want to : lose weight, read a book a week, learn Cantonese, learn to braid knuckle hair, or learn to juggle.
- Why you mad?- When people call you out on NOT doing anything you said you would. You put it out there. What did you think people were gonna do when they had a list of future failures you posted yourself?
- Why do we only make these declarations once a year?- So, January 1 is the only time we can make resolutions for change? Well, that’s stupid. What if I want to add to my initial resolution- or- have completed it and want to do something else? Do I have to wait?
Let’s get real here-
I do not do the whole Resolution thing. I choose one word to focus my year on and build from there. Last year (or now) my word was FREEDOM. I know it seems like an odd word, but let me explain. I wanted freedom from stress, freedom from feeling less than, freedom from the things in my life that stop me from doing everything I dream, among other things. It was a simple way to focus on a multitude of things in my life. I could even turn it into freedom to lose weight if I wanted. Either way I was free to use it wherever it worked best. No limits!
Last year the hubs chose ADVENTURE and did we have some! Adventures are more than crazy events you do on the tops of mountains or shooting out of the ass end of a plane. Sometimes they are as simple as trying new foods, or stopping to check out little off the beaten path places. It’s just stepping outside of your comfort zone- or expanding it.
I’m still on the lookout for 2018’s word. Do I need to lose weight? Duh- I’m a chick! Of course I am repulsed by my body, but that’s how I was raised. Now I go by what the hubs says…and he thinks I’m pretty HOT and who am I to argue. Read a book a week? I read more than a book a week as it is- I’m good. I would like to learn Spanish. Cantonese? Nah. You get the picture.
What are your thoughts? Do you do the whole Resolution thing or do you just live your best life every day?
